The game was published by Devolver Digital, as Katana Zero is a perfect matchup in their lineup of brutal video games such as Hotline Miami, My Friend Pedro, and RUINER. Katana Zero had been in development for six years, prior to when it was released on April 18, 2019. Justin did all the programming, design, levels, overall story, and how the scenes play out, as well as making a few songs for the game’s soundtrack. In the words of the game’s creator, Katana Zero is a neo-noir action platformer with a focus on tight, fast-paced, acrobatic combat.

Justin, or Askiisoft, is a collective developer who has created flash games such as Tower of Heaven (2009), Pause Ahead (2013) and OverPowered (2014). Katana Zero is easily one of the most fun games I’ve played in a long time and practically the entire thing was created by one guy, Justin Stander.

And oh man, the Steam algorithm knew me too well. So, back in April 2019 when Katana Zero was recommended to me on my Steam page, I was too intrigued to not check it out. Fast-paced, action platformers have always been one of my favorite genres of video games.
